Electrolysis Post-Treatment Care

It is normal following electrolysis for the treated area to be red and slightly swollen. Both of these conditions usually disappear in an hour or two but can last longer.

The following post-treatment care suggestions should be followed for the first 24 hours after treatment.

In general, avoid any kind of activity that would subject the treated skin to irritating conditions while it is in the healing stage.

MORE SPECIFICALLY:

  1. Keep the area clean with witch hazel, hydrogen peroxide, soap & water, or other suitable antiseptics.

  2. Daily cleaning and moisturizing of the treatment area is very important.

  3. Apply ice to the treated area to reduce any swelling, if necessary.

  4. If advised by your electrologist, apply an alcohol-free antibiotic cream (such as Bacitracin) to help minimize infection in the treated area.

  5. Keep your hands off the treated area outside of applying any necessary topicals. If any scabs appear following treatment, tell your electrologist about them at your next appointment. Please do not pick them off.

  6. Do not use any abrasive scrubbing action on the treated areas until they are fully healed.

  7. Do not visit a tanning salon or get a sunburn on the treated area for at least 2 full days.

  8. Do your best to avoid wearing make up for a full 2 days post-electrolysis treatment, and use only fresh make-up, purchased within the last 90 days, to minimize infection.

*If any abnormal reactions occur which appear to be related to your electrolysis treatment, contact your electrologist for further care instructions.
